Rye Observer Comment

At last some welcome news for gardeners with Rye winning the hosepipe ban lottery and Southern Water removing restrictions.

Yet a few miles away in Battle South East Water keep their ban in place despite swathes of the area they supply being underwater after being hit by the worst June floods in Sussex in memory.

It’s not all good news for the green-fingered though with Rother Council announcing it will now charge to remove garden waste.

Organisers of Rye International Jazz festival created a big splash this week when they announced legendary Cream drummer Ginger Baker will be playing at Rye College in August as part of the festival.

It really is shaping up to be an impressive festival with a host of big names, street musicians, educational projects and youth workshops.

If this ambitious festival realises its full potential it can only be a huge benefit to the town and the local economy.

A great response on our website of people commenting on the Queens Head pub in Rye causing offence by declaring itself Jubilee Free.

Lots of people expressed strong views and many came down on the side of the pub.
