IN a situation that has become almost farcical the Battle area technically remains in drought in a week that has seen Sussex receive a month’s rainfall in just 12 hours, Southern Water is today expected to announce that it will be lifting its hosepipe ban.

Southern Water, which supplies nearby Hastings and Rye, moved to lift the hosepipe ban this week.

But South East Water say their ban remains in place, despite areas of Sussex they supply being hit by the worst June floods in memory.

The hosepipe ban, in April, was followed by steady showers in May and June, culminating with Sunday’s record deluge which left parts of Sussex under water.

The Environment Agency imposed 42 flood warnings in Sussex yet South East still claim they do not have sufficient supplies to eb able to lift the ban.

Most of the region’s water supply comes not from reservoirs but from the underground storeage aquifers,

Water companies have been criticised for the way they operate and maintain these storage facilities by the Institute of Engineers.

People in the Battle are need some plausible explanations from the company to who they regularly pay their bills.
