Online secondary school applications beat government targets

Online applications for secondary school places have proved a great success after being introduced via the East Sussex County Council website in September 2006.

Almost a quarter of parents chose to apply electronically by the deadline in October. This figure exceeded government targets and is expected to rise each year.

Effectiveness welcomed the popularity of the new system. He said:

"This is one of the most important decisions parents make. Our job is to make it as simple and smooth as possible. This response from parents suggests that we are achieving that."

Online admissions will also be available for primary school places. Applications start in January for entry in September 2007.
