Nursery rhyme theme at flower festival

Little Miss Muffet, Quite Contrary Mary and the Queen of Hearts were just a few of the stars of All Saints Church's flower festival.

The theme of the colourful event was Nursery Rhymes, which was celebrated across 23 skillful displays on show inside the church.

One of the organisers of the flower festival was Pat Cooper whose own exhibit was Little Miss Muffet.

Pat used country garden-type flowers in mauves, pinks, orange, purples and blues to contrast in a cheerful clash.

Pat said: "The festival was a wonderful success '“ everybody worked so hard, it was beautiful. We had Humpty Dumpty by Father Trevor, Ring O' Roses, Queen Of Hearts, Jack And Jill went up the Hill, and so on.

"People who came in said they couldn't believe how we imagined it '“ the festival gets better every year."

All Saints school contributed a display, as did Glyne Gap Faculty Unit, which provided Polly Put the Kettle On.

The flower festival this year made approximately 1,000 which the organisers were disappointed by because they felt they should have achieve two to three hundred pounds more but for a mistake in the Bexhill Observer advertisement which claimed the Festival shut at 1pm on Saturday afternoon instead of 4.30pm.

"It was really good," said Pat, " but we could have done with that extra 200-300 to bring it up. I know people aren't as well off this year, but we missed out with not being open properly on the Saturday afternoon. We lost out with the sale of refreshments and with the stalls, and we had to bring everything in from the hall into the church."
