A new wing and a prayer

PUPILS have celebrated the opening of a new £1.4million wing at The Towers Convent School, Upper Beeding.

The Right Rev Kieran Conry, Bishop of Arundel and Brighton, officially opened the development at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the school.

Eight classrooms, two science laboratories, a careers room and a drama and dance studio are now housed in the new wing. Towers head teacher Carole Baker said: "The rooms are already in use. The girls are over the moon and staff are delighted with the interactive whiteboards. They add a new dimension to their lessons. The drama and dance studio is just such a huge space and the girls think it is absolutely wonderful. Everybody is delighted."

In June, two nuns donned hard hats and scaled scaffolding at the school for a topping-out ceremony, when the last tile was placed on the development's roof.
