New museum opens

The Trainscape museum features tracks made by members of the Shoreham Model Railway Club, who were left homeless after their previous base, Kingston Barn in St Julian's Lane, closed after safety fears in March.

Club treasurer Maggie Pettett, who is running the museum, said there were 15 tracks on display, which have been created by her and club chairman Brian Taylor.

Mrs Pettett told the Herald: "We put it here because we thought women would like the dolls houses and men are into model railways. It's dual-purpose."

Three of the tracks have also been featured on the Sky TV programme Home and Leisure. There is also a large collection of model railway memorabilia, including the original Triang track and cigarette cards.

Mrs Pettett said the club still had a lot of its equipment stored in a container in Shoreham Port.

Kingston Barn has now been put up for sale. The barn was also home to the Arun Vale Model Railway Club and Mrs Pettett said they had now found a new home in Brighton.

Trainscape is open from Tuesday to Saturday.

Admission is 2 for adults, 1 for children and senior citizens. Families are 5.
