MP learns about recycling at Ford plant

MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton and Minister of State for Schools, Nick Gibb MP, helped transform waste last week when he visited Ford Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in West Sussex.

The Conservative MP visited the site to learn more about boosting recycling, the work of the site’s visitors centre and the importance of putting the right stuff in the right bin.

The Ford site, run by Viridor on behalf of West Sussex County Council, houses one of the most technologically advanced MRFs in the country.

The facility, linking with a network of eleven local household recyling sites, mechanically sorts and separates household recyclables into high quality materials ready for manufacturing into new goods and products.

Ford MRF handles recycling from all househoulds in West Sussex, with capacity to process up to 100,000 tonnes of materials every year.

Mr Gibb said: “I enjoyed visiting the plant. I was able to see first-hand the state-of-the-art technology that’s sifting, sorting and stacking our recycling at Ford. It was interesting to learn how our paper, card, glass and plastic is transformed from what once was viewed as waste into the next generation of new things.”
