Motorv8 organise classic car fun-run

HISTORIC vehicles formed a cavalcade along Bexhill seafront for a Fun Run after the carnival.

Motor clubs from Hastings, Bexhill and Eastbourne moved along the seafront to Cooden Beach Hotel for refreshments, ending at the West Station Restaurant for a courtesy buffet and final park up.

Deborah Underhill is chair of Motorv8, the trade name for East Sussex Transport Heritage Centre and the company who organised the Fun Run.

Deborah said: "The run will add to the fun and spectacle of the carnival whilst continuing along the historic seafront route used by the trams from 1906 to the mid 1920's.

"Tram services began in Hastings then to St Leonard's Seafront. A depot was built at Bulverhithe extending the Services from St Leonard's to Bexhill and soon to Cooden Beach. They were replaced by the trolleybuses until 1959.

"Everyone involved said they had a really great time and hoped that Motorv8 would be holding the event again next year.

"This is really positive as it is Motorv8's first event since forming the company in June. We will be looking to coordinate the event with Bexhill Carnival organisers.

"Motorv8 would like to thank everyone involved for making this a successful evening."

The cavalcade of 30 vehicles was lead by a 1965 South Downs Double Decker from Eastbourne Omnibus Society.

Bexhill 100 member Tom Restell drove his 1958 Jaguar, while Motorv8 directors Ion Castro and Roy Austen, of the Hastings Tramways Club and Hastings Trolleybus Restoration Group, brought a 6ft model replica 1906 Tram.

Bexhill 100 member and Motorv8 director Peter Brown drove his hand-built Aston Martin.
