More livestock classes at show

NEW classes have been introduced for this year's Heathfield Show.

Organisers are building on the success of last year which attracted more than 1,100 entries in the livestock and horse sections.

This year there is a new section for pigs.

Show spokeswoman Nicola Magill said: 'The 2008 Show will once more be alive with animals representing the cream of their breeds.'

The theme for this year's flower show will be The Arts and once again the Show Council will be promoting locally produced crafts and produce throughout the showground.

Young handler classes will again be run in both the sheep and cattle sections.

The prestigious Henry Noakes Young Achiever trophy will be awarded to a handler aged under 16 in a horse class this year.

The show encourages entries in these classes because 'young people are the future of farming in Britain and will ensure the continuation of the farming industry in the south east into the next century'.
