Midhurst student through to national finals

MIDHURST Rother College student Jasmin Cain is through to the regional final of the Rotary Young Chef competition.

Jasmin won her first round at the college. For the semi-final at King Edward School, Godalming, she had to add a course to her menu.

After tips from Jo Oomen, of the Lodsworth catering company Sujoco, Jasmin worked with Carole Sharpe, of The Vintage Tea Rooms, Midhurst, to perfect her new menu.

The hard work paid off and Jasmin beat ten other talented cooks, once again taking first place.

On Saturday she put on her chef’s apron once again for the Rotary district final at Rydon Community College, Pulborough, where eight young hopefuls had two hours to prepare a meal.

This time Jasmin was runner up with her starter of pea mousse served with seeded raisin soda bread, quails egg and cured ham twists followed by chicken and rosemary ravioli served with tomato and leek veloute and white chocolate and blueberry dessert.

She now goes forward to the regional final in Maidstone on March 23. Kavanagh Budgens at Midhurst supplied ingredients for the practise rounds and the competitions.
