SWIMMER Penny Clapcott returned from the national disability swimming championships at Sheffield with a fistful of gold and silver medals.

Her haul included three golds and six silvers for individual events and two more silvers won with relay teams.

And now her superb achievements at national level have been recognised at her "home" pool, Littlehampton Swimming and Sports Centre, where Arun District Council chairman Jacqui Maconachie presented Penny with a special certificate on Monday.

Penny, 13, is a member of Littlehampton-based Sussex Squids disabled swimming club, and a pupil at the Angmering School.

Her success is all the more remarkable as she has been swimming competitively for just two years.
