Daughter Christine Wonham said Rose had gone into hospital two weeks before her birthday, after fall, and she had an operation to pin her hip.

Until two years ago, Rose was living in her own home but she now has dementia, which developed only in the last year.
Christine said: “She has been better since her birthday, it is as if it has reawakened something. She has been in quite good form and remembers the mayoress in her pink outfit.”
Rose was born in Herne Hill in south London and moved to Thornton Heath as a child. She was brought up there over the war years, then moved to Sanderstead in 1949.

The family set up home in Bognor, then Rose moved to Lancing in 2006 to be near her daughter, Christine. Her husband, Alan, had died in 1992 and she sadly lost her other daughter, Pauline, the following year.
Christine said: “She is a private person who loves her family, her home and her garden. She has six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.”
