Matthew swims his way to honour

Learning to swim helped a seven-year-old Felpham boy achieve the highest honour available to a Beaver Scout.

Matthew Bishop, of 1st Felpham Beaver Colony, took to the water as he worked his way towards the bronze award.

The presentation of the award reflected the efforts he had made during his 18 months with the group.

He also took part in visits to Littlehampton lifeboat station, rode in an aircraft simulator and took part in an entry in last summer's illuminations gala in Bognor Regis.

The achievement by Matthew, who attends Downview Primary School, followed his recognition as his colony's Beaver Scout of the Year for his hard work and enthusiasm.

The double successes have ensured a successful end to his time as a Beaver before he moves up to the Cubs after Christmas.
