Marine life explored for World Oceans Day

SHOREHAM'S annual celebration of the marine environment returns to the town on Saturday.

Adur World Oceans Day, at Coronation Green from 10am to 4pm, promotes better understanding of marine life.

The free event is in its 14th successive year, celebrating International World Oceans Day with an all-day environmental exhibition about the sea and seashore, nature and biodiversity.

Sussex Wildlife Trust will make its third appearance, with Nikki Hills, making waves project officer, providing a large exhibit on the seashore for school-aged children.

Wildlife writer Steve Savage will be manning the dolphin exhibit and other marine life activities. Children have an opportunity for interactive play while learning with the Friends of Shoreham Beach display.

The British Marine Life Study Society is in charge of the live animal display, including lobsters, small fish, crabs and other life found on the Sussex seashore.

Experts will be on hand to answer questions and identify nature discoveries.

The Shoreham Society will be present with a table on local heritage and conservation and Southwick Camera Club will man a display of marine life photographs.

Andy Horton, a founder member of Adur World Oceans Day, said: “This family exhibition will take place under the marquee on Coronation Green, on the same day as the farmer’s market in East Street and a beer tent on Coronation Green.”
