Man, 28, killed by train

A FORMER Lewes Priory School student has died after being hit by a train.

Matthew Chapman, 28, from Brighton died on the tracks following a night out with friends in Wiltshire.

Mr Chapman grew up in Peacehaven.

He was working as a builder in Brighton and was staying with friends when he died near Staverton, Trowbridge, in Wiltshire on Monday.

He was hit by the Cardiff to Westbury train at the junction for Holt, just south of Staverton on the railway line.

Train crews alerted emergency services shortly after the incident at 11.06pm.

An ambulance attended but he was dead before it arrived.

The train line was shut down while officers gathered information and took evidence from the immediate area.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: 'There was a person struck by a train in the Wiltshire area.

'The incident happened very late in the evening.

'It is a non suspicious death, inquiries are underway and the person's relatives have been informed.'
