Littlehampton library's online lessons in web's wonders

LITTLEHAMPTON residents discovered the wonder of the worldwide web at the town's library, as part of National Get Online Day (Friday, October 24).

The library hosted 11 half-hour introductory sessions, teaching 17 people how to use Google, set up an e-mail account and access web pages.

And Littlehampton's MP Nick Gibb joined in the surfing sessions to encourage library users to make the most of the internet.

Sarah Watter assistant librarian at Littlehampton and Rustington libraries, said the day was fully booked.

"Fantastic" communication tool

"It is important that people learn to use the internet as it can save them time and money, and is a fantastic communication tool.

"We were very pleased that Mr Gibb came along. He also thinks it is really important to introduce people to the internet."

While the average age of the learners was abound 60, Sarah said that the sessions were for anyone, of any age.

She added that the library would be running further classes in the future, though no firm dates had been set.

"People often come into the library and ask about adult education internet courses, and now we have a waiting list of people wanting to take part in the Get Online sessions."
