Little Common Branch of the Royal British Legion sponsored walk

THERE were better days on which to have done a sponsored walk on behalf of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal than soaking-wet Sunday. But there is no better cause.

That is why Yvonne Lee, Poppy Appeal organiser for Little Common Branch of the Royal British Legion, her husband and branch treasurer, Mike, and colleague Dave Hill set out as planned at 10am to walk to Little Common.

The sun did peep out from behind the clouds and the rain ease off.

It happened once - and then only briefly.

First home at Little Common Legion headquarters in Meads Avenue before 1pm was Dave. Yvonne and Mike followed shortly after, having stopped briefly for a refreshment break at the Star Inn at Normans Bay.

Each was soaked. But Poppy Appeal at Little Common had benefited by 310, Dave having received pledges of 250 and Mike and Yvonne 50.

Ready to greet them was colleague Tony Higley, who had helped organise the sponsored walk.
