Lions club Christmas collection

THERE was some monkey business happening in Western Road on Saturday, but it was all in a good cause, as Bexhill Lions club members rolled out their very own decorative organ, and encouraged shoppers to make a donation to their Christmas collection.

The cheery organ grinders manning the music machine - at the time the photograph was taken - were Lions club treasurer and former president Ron Moore, ably assisted by Cllr Paul Lendon who, although has no official title within the Lions club, was happy to describe himself as being: "Just a roaring Lion."

Ron explained that the organ, although not real, was built and crafted by a Lions club member approximately thirty years ago, and was designed to play music by way of a music system placed in the top section.

Paul said: "It was made to cheer up the people of Bexhill and to bring Christmas cheer '“ especially important in these troubled times."

Part of the worlds largest voluntary service, the Bexhill Lions raise thousands of pounds each year offering help and support to local people.

Ron thanked everyone for their generous donations and said: "We really do appreciate every penny we get and it all goes to help people who are more unfortunate than ourselves."
