Angie Coston hosted the farewell party to mark the end of her 26 years at the music bar in Waterloo Square, and the venue was packed.

She said: “We had a weekend of live music because that’s what the bar is all about. It was all about celebrating my time here and saying goodbye to people. It was a sad time but it was also pleasant as well.”

The bar had become established as a leading venue for music in the town since the mid-Eighties.

It forms part of the Belle Vue Hotel building which was sold by its previous owner.

New owner Ray Hegarty completed the purchase on July 12.

He is having the building refurbished while he decides his exact plans for its future but a new Cheers is set to be included.
