Lent Play set to tour six churches

BEXHILL Amateur Theatrical Society (BATS) are busy putting the final touches to this years 'Lent Play', which will tour six churches in the region, commencing on March 29th.

The play, entitled 'Living Lord', is written by Director Peter Bradbury, who gave a brief outline of what audiences can expect from his original play.

He said: "Imagine you're living in a future where the regime bans religion '“ if they catch you at it you're dead! - yet some risk meeting as Christians in secret.

A group of nine people gather weekly to practice their faith, posing as a 1960's revival club. There's Rocky the leader, Matty who finds the songs and leads the band, Jude who thinks they should be working to change the regime, Jo who's the fundamentalist one, Tom who's doubtful about everything...."

The play follows stirring events around Easter, encompassing fear, humour, determination and hope. The BATS aren't giving the plot away but Peter said audiences can expect some drama, and to lighten the atmosphere a live band play new songs that tip both ends of the scale with a mix that he describes as, "rousing, exuberant, beautiful and sombre."

Along with writing and directing the play, multi-talented Peter also wrote all the songs, and he said the play is open to all an not just for regular church goers:

"I do hope people will come to see us, as they're sure to find it worthwhile, even if they don't usually set foot in a church. I've been fortunate to secure a cast which includes a number of the BATS most experienced and talented actors and singers."
