Language success at Bexhill College

Bexhill College has won the 2007 Good Schools Guide Award for Girls taking Russian at A Level at an English Comprehensive School.

The prestigious award was made on the basis of A Level results, relative popularity of topic and success achieved by pupils.

Bexhill College students Elina and Ramona Kazakova along with Ann Rasheva all achieved a grade A in their exams.

With languages no longer a compulsory part of the curriculum, they are not always chosen as GCSE option but remain a favourite with post-16 students.

Bexhill College runs AS/A level and International Baccalaureate courses in French, Spanish & German. Chinese and Japanese courses form part of the broad enrichment programme the college offers.

Exchanges frequently run in conjunction with Bexhill College's French and Spanish counterparts.

The college also supports skilled students wishing to study other languages. There were "fantastic" results for students taking Greek, Italian and Arabic, giving the continued success of Bexhill College a distinctly cosmopolitan feeling.

Ralph Lucas, Editor of The Good Schools Guide, said "Our aim is to highlight excellent teaching in individual subjects which is why we are delighted to present Bexhill College with this award"
