Her atmospheric picture, Breakwater, of a young woman perched on timbers above the incoming tide, was the favourite of people attending the exhibition, which ended last month after running through the summer.

This year’s Open, with the theme Deep Blue Sea, attracted entries from a record 87 artists, amateur and professionals from across Sussex, with 78 being selected for the show, and contributing 116 pieces of work.
