'˜Incomparable' trombonist returns

TROMBONIST Sid Bailey has left New York and New Orleans behind to appear in Steyning.

The ‘incomparable’ jazz player has recently completed a tour of the States and now comes to Steyning Jazz Club on Friday with his Tailgate Six band.

Club member Colin Jilks said: “He leads a great band of musicians playing the particularly fine jazz of the 1930s, with its irresistible rhythms guaranteed to stimulate the intellectual corpuscles of even the most staid jazz devotee.”

Sid will be joined by George Patterson on trumpet, Roy Leith on tenor sax, Peter Godfrey on piano, Trevor Britton on string bass, Cookie Jones on drums and Piers Clark on guitar.

Mr Jilks added: “An evening of jazz, par excellence, promises to be an occasion of sparkling delight.”

Sid is a regular at the jazz club and usually plays to a packed house ‘warming the whole hall with hot jazz from the 1930s’.

The club meets at the Steyning Centre, Fletcher’s Croft, at 8.30pm. Doors open 7.45pm. Members £6, guests £10, students £6. Contact Denis Cummings 01903 814017 for more information.
