Improved service for children’s hearing

A NEW children’s audiology service has been launched by East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.

The service, which is run by a small and dedicated specialist team, now provides an integrated screening, diagnostic and treatment service for babies and children with hearing difficulties up to the age of 17 years.

Clinics will be held in various community locations including Rye Memorial Hospital. In Hastings, patients will be seen in a brand new sound-treated facility within the Children’s Integrated Therapy Service (CITS) at 407 Old London Road, Ore.

Ian Woodward, Head of Paediatric Audiology for East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “The development of a dedicated paediatric audiology service will be of great benefit for the children of East Sussex.

“Until recently, many children would have been seen at general audiology clinics alongside adult patients. We’ve now introduced clinics that are solely for babies and children with dedicated staff who are specifically trained to work with them, in community locations. This makes the service more family friendly and easier to access.”
