Impressive range of talent on show

Around a dozen acts performed in the college’s annual Academy Fame in the Atrium at Station Plaza, in front of an audience and panel of judges last Wednesday.

The difficult task of choosing the three winning acts fell to judges Mayor Kim Forward, principal Sue Middlehurst, the college’s executive director Jim Evans, Observer content editor Angela Gallen and the winner of Academy Fame 2009, Suzan Ozkan. They agreed the range of talent had been impressive, with a diverse mix of dance and vocal performances. “It was a very entertaining evening and we had our work cut out choosing a winner,” said the Mayor.

Unique dance duo Release formed of performing arts students Kay Williams and Dillon MacDonald scooped the first prize of shopping vouchers worth £100 with their masked street dance to Missy Elliot’s Pass a Dutch.

Second place went to singer-guitarist James Seguin with a classy rendition of the Oasis track Go Let It Out and Dan Wheeler took third place with his rendition of Words by the Bee Gees. Sound and light for the event were provided by students on the college’s music technology course.
