ICE CAUSES DELAYS

SNOW was replaced by dangerous ice on East Sussex roads this morning (Thursday) causing numerous small shunts. In the main, however, drivers behaved sensibly.

There were delays on trains; but one train lost its traction on icy rails at Southease and brought the Seaford to Lewes service to a halt for an hour until 9am.

Schools were shut in Etchingham and Rye.

Only one ferry has operated between Newhaven and Dip(ppe over the last 11 days because of a failure of the other boat. There were no sailing at all on Thursday last week due to high winds.
