Horsham man tweeting charity cycle trek

Edd Jones, 22, who lives in Bens Acre, is on the ninth day of a planned 14-day trip with university friend Tom Garry.

He chose to support Arthritis UK as his sister Emily, then 17, was diagnosed with a form of arthritis in 2009.

Edd is a former pupil at Heron Way Primary School in Horsham, and played at Horsham Rugby Club before leaving for university.

He set off from Horsham on Monday July 8 taking the train to Penzance and starting the challenge that evening by cycling from the station to Lands End and then onto their first nights stop at St Just on the north coast of Cornwall.

They are travelling alone with no back up, carrying everything they need for the trip on their bikes, although on three days family members have supported the lads by carrying their panniers, cycling with them and cheering them on at various points but as such they are unsupported.

Averaging around 80 miles a day, there have been a few bumps in the road with six flat tyres between the pair, while the heatwave has made conditions challenging.

Yesterday they climbed a total of 9343ft up to Ingleton, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and tomorrow they leave England and head into Scotland on to the last stretch of their challenge.

They are due to arrive at John O’Groats on Sunday July 21, before travelling back by train.
