Hopes high for new Bognor museum

Hopes are high for a new museum in Bognor Regis.

Town councillors are working with the local history society to find bigger premises than those in the High Street. The society has occupied the building since May 1997. It attracts thousands of visitors a year.

But its cramped condition means that space is at a premium to explain different aspects of Bognor's past. Town council leader Cllr Greg Burt told the annual town council meeting : "One of the council's priorities is to find a new home for the museum. The council is actively looking for somewhere to rehouse it."

He stated that the details of a preferred location were still the subject of negotiations before it could be publicised. Town council members would need to agree the matter first, he added. But he assured residents present that the plans were exciting.

The museum has opened for the 2008 season.
