Homes scheme go-ahead helps survival of 130-cow herd

PLANS for a housing development to help pay for a new dairy on a farm near Chichester were approved by district councillors- ensuring the survival and expansion of a 130-cow herd.

An application by the Goodwood Estate company for a change of use and alteration of farm buildings to provide eight homes was opposed by planning officers, who said it went against council planning policies and recommended refusal.

The council's northern area development control committee backed the scheme, but because of the police issues involved, a final decision had to be taken by the planning applications referral committee.

This voted unanimously in favour of granting planning permission subject to a formal legal agreement.
