Greg on train cuts fear

A CALL for Eurostar to rethink its proposed cuts to train services operating out of Ashford International station to Paris, Lille and Brussels has been made by town MP Gregory Barker.

He was speaking after a meeting with members of Bexhill Rail Action Group and the Marshlink Action Group in Bexhill last Friday.

The meeting comes after Eurostar's announcement that it will be drastically cutting the level of service from Ashford to just three Paris bound trains a day with no direct trains to Brussels. Eurostar train travel has become more popular recently following the introduction of the Brighton to Ashford train link, which also stops at Bexhill, and there is increasing local concern at the proposed cuts to the European services.

Mr Barker said: "Any cuts to train services from Ashford International to Paris and Brussels will seriously affect our local communities who regularly use these services, particularly those travelling from coastal towns such as Bexhill.

"These proposals will drastically impact upon our efforts to regenerate Bexhill and the surrounding area and they should be reconsidered. I am therefore calling for a full investigation into these cuts by Parliament."
