Gated access scheme to be introduced at Shoreham harbour's eastern arm

A gated access scheme is to be introduced at the eastern harbour arm in Shoreham, the port has confirmed.

The gate will be installed in Autumn in order ‘to ensure compliance with our bye law on bright lights for fishing’, Shoreham Port said.

The scheme is being introduced by Shoreham Port and the Shoreham Harbour Arms Community Organisation.

The port said it woud be a similar scheme to that on the Western arm.

A spokesman said: “This will ensure continued access to anglers and the general public during daylight hours but ensure there are no hazards to navigation in the hours of darkness.”

More details on the scheme will be announced in due course, the spokesman said.

Last year, Shoreham Port issued a reminder to anglers to use blue lights instead of the standard white lights when fishing off of the East and West Arms. Read the story here
