Garden Party raises over £2,000 for Thank The Forces charity

"THE PERFECT summer's afternoon" is how Thank The Forces Chair of Trustees Sue Smith described the charity's first garden party.

The event, which was held in Little Common at the home of Kim Peppiatt on Aug 2nd, raised over 2000.

This year's fundraising party saw over 250 people pour through the gates, keen to support the Polelgate-based charity, which works to send treats and gifts out to our troops based in Afghanistan.

Guest of honour at the event was The Senior Chaplain, Padre Christian of the British Army and representatives from the Grenadier Guards.

Addressing the crowds the Padre said: "The boxes sent out to troops from Thank the Forces really do make a difference. Even when a group of guys received boxes destined for ladies, they still had fun putting on facepacks and wearing knickers on their heads!"

A total of 2442.10p was raised in just 3 hours.

Thank the Forces has now raised enough money to supply eleven chaplains due to deploy to Afghanistan with iPods and speakers, which they can carry in their rucksacks to conduct services in the country.
