Fleur Shows Her Metal

BEAUTY combines with practicality in the work of Littlehampton metalsmith Fleur Grenier, whose flowing designs in pewter almost demand to be held.

For the time being, though, they are just there to be looked at, in the reception at Littlehampton Museum.

Fleur has trained in her craft for six years, including a masters degree at the Royal College of Art, and in 2000 won an international competition in New York. She also lectures at Northbrook College, Worthing.

Clocks, pocket watches and cruet sets are among the practical objects she has produced, mainly working in pewter.

"Through my work I have chosen to design functional objects which entice people to explore and handle them, because of their ergonomic, flowing forms. Using pewter has enhanced this feeling, as the softness of the metal complements the soft, feminine curves of the final objects."

Fleur is the latest in a series of local artists to exhibit at the museum, which is keen to encourage others there are still some vacancies in this year's programme.

Fleur's exhibition continues until February 22.
