Film-maker seeks memories of life in wartime Littlehampton

PEOPLE who lived through the Second World War in Sussex are being sought by a film-maker working on a documentary DVD on the subject.

Henry Buckton would like to hear from anybody who has personal memories of the time, from East or West Sussex.

The county’s beaches became Britain’s frontline, faced with the threat of invasion from 1940 onwards, after the Germans occupied the seaboard of northern France.

Sussex was in the thick of the hostilities and the film will explore some of the ways its people and places were affected, including Littlehampton’s involvement in the D-Day landings in Normandy, in June, 1944, and the role of airfields such as Tangmere and Ford in the Battle of Britain.

Worthing, Chichester and Bognor will also be featured.

Anyone who has memories of the war years in Sussex, photographs or other information, and would like to take part in the film, is asked to contact Henry by email at [email protected]
