Felpham cycleway closed for revamp

A major footpath and cycleway through Felpham is to be closed for up to two months from next week.

Work should start on Tuesday, August 26, on the first of three phases of work to the route along the west side of Felpham Way.

This phase of the scheme, costing 85,000, will involve the total rebuilding of the combined footpath/cycleway on the west side from Upper Bognor Road northwards to the pelican crossing at the junction of the Rife Way to Brooks Lane footpath.

It will last until late October, weather permitting. Workmen will usually be on site between 7.30am and 5.30pm weekdays.

Cllr Derek Whittington, in charge of West Sussex County Council's transport policies, said: "This is an important scheme because the upgrade will encourage people in the area to cycle rather than use their cars.

"This is not just good for the environment, but will also help us all to keep fit.

"As it is a busy stretch of road and near a school, we wanted to get some of the work done before students return from their summer holidays."

The scheme has been split into three separate phases over a three-year period. The footpath and cycleway will be closed for the duration of the works.
