Fancy a walk with The Conquerer?

If you’ve ever fancied yourself a bit of a historian, or wondered what it might be like to tread the footsteps of William the Conqueror, the Rotary Club of Battle and St Michael’s Hospice have just the thing for you.

Raising funds for both charities the 1066 Charity Walk will be held on Sunday September 29 and is open to people of all ages and abilities.

The walk follows the historical route taken by William the Conqueror from Pevensey to Battle and offers 3 starting points, varying in distance from the final meeting point at Battle Abbey.

If you want a real challenge, the full route will be 16 miles long but there are less challenging options starting at either Boreham Street, (9 miles), or Stevens Crouch, (4 miles).

You’ll have the opportunity to take in local historical sites such as Ashburnham Forge and Herstmonceux Castle, before ending in Battle, the scene of King Harold’s defeat! Delicious tea and cakes will be served at Battle Abbey School.

It’s only £5 to register to take part in this historical journey.
