Even more events added toRye’s big Scallop Festival

QUIZZES, walks, talks and even a scallop treasure trail have been lined up for Rye Scallop Festival which gets underway on Saturday February 2.

This year’s festival is set-to outstrip previous years with a packed programme which aims to celebrate Rye’s famous local produce.

There will be scallop shelling and cookery demonstrations and course and local restaurants and pubs will be serving up the delicacy in a myriad of imaginative ways.

Events have spread beyond Rye with a Scallop Quiz Night at The New Inn, Winchelsea, on Tuesday February 5 at 8.30pm and a Scallop Quizine at The Ship Winchelsea Beach on Wednesday 6 at 8pm with a special supper.

Rye Bonfire Boys hold a Scallop Quiz at The Brewery Yard Club on Thursday 7, with nibbles and a raffle. This starts at 7.30pm.

There is also a Scallop Quiz Night at The Standard Inn, Rye, on Sunday 10 at 7.30pm. The quiz will include a Rye Bay Scallop round.

Glenda Procter, from Udimore, has donated a number of her hand-made scallop shell boxes to be used in shop windows for a family treasure trail around Rye.

Families will be able to download an activity sheet from the Rye website or collect them from shops or Rye Museum.

Glenda said: “I love Rye, love scallops,love the town and am happy to do something which will l support its traders and tourist industry.

On Tuesday from 2pm till 4pm there will be a talk at The Stormont Rooms, by Andrew Ashton, titled ‘Absinthe – The Green Fairy’ exploring its links with scallops,
