Dinner WILL be served to hospital volunteers

BEXHILL Hospital volunteers are going back on the Christmas meal list.

The League of Friends is insisting that volunteers are not left off a Christmas gift list totalling 50,966.

Committee members bridled when they were told there would be no room at staff Christmas meals - funded by the league - for league volunteers who run shops in the hospital and Irvine Unit and other volunteers who help with the hospital s renal dialysis unit.

The meeting was told that, with the addition of Bexhill and Rother Primary Care Trust members who are now based in a former first floor ward, staff at Bexhill Hospital now total 273.

As a result of the growing number, volunteers could not be included for a festive meal.

Now the league is making 500 available for independent dinner for the 60 volunteers who help keep the hospital going.
