Cuckfield Evening WI: have a new venue and time! On Tuesday September 20th we will be meeting at Cuckfield Baptist Church at 7:30pm, NOT The Old School. Our speaker, Sarah Oldridge, will be speaking about Marianne North, who painted flowers in Victorian times. Our last speaker, in June, came from Crawley and talked about some of the people who lived there in the last hundred years, as well as showing us pictures of these diverse characters. This gave us an insight to what Crawley was like before it was a ' New Town'. In July we held our birthday dinner at The Rose and Crown, for the second time. Everyone, enjoyed the local, tasty produce and convivial company. New members would be most welcome. Please contact Marion Davison on 01444 455939 or just turn up!

CUCKFIELD SOCIETY ANNUAL VILLAGE SHOW: 10th September from 2.00 until 4.30. Do come along to Cuckfield Park this Saturday and spend the afternoon looking at the exhibits, enjoying tea & cakes made by Cuckfield WI while listening to the Mid Sussex Brass Band. Entrance is £1.50, children and parking free.

“1066 and All That”; Cuckfield Museum will host an illustrated talk by author, David Mortimer on 14th September at 8.00 in the Council Chamber, Queen’s Hall. The subject is “1066 and All That”. In commemoration of the 950th anniversary of Sussex’s famous battle, David discusses what really happened at Hastings in 1066 and how recent research suggests that England’s most famous battle might not have been where we thought it was and how Harold’s end may not have been so clear cut.
