A man who burgled two homes in Bognor has been given a 17-month prison sentence. John Phillips, 46, of St Albans Road, Bognor, was sentenced when he appeared at Hove Crown Court on 1 July, having previously pleaded guilty to burgling a flat in Walton Road, Bognor, on 23 December last year, and another one in nearby Belmont Road on 22 January.

Ian Noakes, 41, a police constable based at Brighton, has been imprisoned for one year after he was found guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice following a trial at Brighton Crown Court on Friday 2 July. Noakes appeared in custody for sentencing on Monday 5 July. The court heard that Noakes was not on duty at the time of the offence, and the offence was not related to any cases he was investigating. He was found not guilty of making threats to kill two people he knew, also whilst off duty. Noakes was suspended from duty and will now face disciplinary proceedings by the force’s Professional Standards Department.

A motorcyclist who seriously injured a cyclist in a collision in Bexhill has been jailed and disqualified from driving. Reece Ripley, 21, unemployed, of no fixed address, appeared in custody at Brighton Magistrates' Court on Thursday 3 June, charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by driving whilst disqualified, and driving with no insurance. He pleaded guilty to all offences and was remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on 1 July for sentencing. There, he was sentenced to a total of three years’ imprisonment and disqualified from driving for three years.
