Man bailed following Littlehampton town centre sex attack

POLICE are investigating an early morning sex attack in Littlehampton town centre.

A woman in her 20s told officers she was sexually assaulted in Surrey Street at around 2am on Friday, January 13.

Two men were arrested and questioned in connection with the incident. One was later released without being charged, while the other was released on bail.

An alleyway between shops, leading off the eastern side of Surrey Street, was cordoned off while forensic officers examined the scene later that morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses who were in the area in the early hours of January 13 to come forward.

Det Insp Tracy Edwards said: “The victim is being offered specialist support at this difficult time.

“I’d like to stress we are in the very early stages of investigation and have yet to obtain full details of the offence.

“As part of ongoing enquiries, officers are gathering forensic evidence and speaking to people who were in the area at the time of the alleged offence.

“If anyone has any information that may assist the investigation, they should contact police immediately.”

A 19-year-old man from Littlehampton was released without charge and a 21-year-old man, also from Littlehampton, was questioned and released on bail until February 13.
