Jurors found Raymond Hoadley, 62, of Willowfield Road in Eastbourne, guilty of the murder of his estranged wife following a three-week trial. On July 5, 2020, police launched a murder investigation after the body of 58-year-old Jacqueline Hoadley was found inside her Eastbourne home in Broad Oak Close. She had suffered multiple injuries to her body and was dead at the scene. Raymond Hoadley was arrested an hour later and charged with murder four days later. The investigation found that on July 4, Hoadley climbed over Jacqueline's fence, broke into her house and murdered her. On January 22, jurors unanimously found him guilty and he will be sentenced on February 22.

Ryan Evans, 27, of Lark Rise in Crawley, was jailed for eight months on January 7 after assaulting a police officer. Evans was reported to have been wielding a knife in Gales Drive in the early hours of December 10 when challenged by police. He started to run but was quickly stopped by PC Claire Harrison and police dog Polly. Evans was found with a six-inch kitchen knife. While being taken to the police vehicle, he tried to headbutt officers before kicking out at one of them, hitting him in the chest. He was arrested ad charged with possession of an offensive weapon in public and assaulting an emergency worker.

Tara Perry, 33, of Priory Road in Hastings, was jailed for six years and three months after robbing a local man in a mobility scooter who had tried to help her. On August 10 last year, Perry approached the 57-year-old man in Church Road and he agreed to give her a lift on his scooter to the police station, Warrior Square railway station, probation offices and Waldegrave Street, where she demanded money, threw him off his scooter and stole £380 of cash. On January 15, she pleaded guilty to robbery and was jailed for six years and three months, two years of which to be served on licence.

Dale Searle, 32, of no fixed address, was jailed for armed robbery after attacking a shop worker in Worthing with an imitation handgun. With his accomplice Danny Lee Cobbold, also 32, Searle browsed Worthing News in Rowlands Road on the afternoon of December 3 before pulling out an imitation revolver and demanding cash. Shop workers handed over £400 from the till and one victim was led to the back and told to open the safe, which was empty. He was assaulted and hit over the head with the fake gun, causing a minor injury. Searle and Cobbold stole four bottles of vodka as they left. Both pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of an imitation firearm. On February 19, Searle was jailed for five years and Cobbold for five years and four months.
