Locked up in January - 15 of the most high profile criminals jailed in Sussex last month
A couple who inflicted horrible injuries to a baby boy, a driver who caused the death of a teenager in a high-speed crash and a man who savagely murdered a homeless man with a stone slab are just some of criminals jailed in Sussex last month.
Here is a roundup of some of the most serious sentencings in Sussex in January. All sentencing details accurate at time of convictions.
Ibrahim Aloqaybi (left) and Ethan Skeeles were jailed for a terrifying ATM robbery in Hove in which knives were produced. The traumatised victim was told we need your money or its your life and youre dead during the attack at 5.45am on December 19, 2018. Ethan Skeeles, 19, of Portland Road in Hove, was jailed for two years and two months. Ibrahim Aloqaybi, 20, of Shirley Road in Hove, was jailed for two years and eight months. A boy who cannot be named was given a community order.
Samuel Boyce, 27, had been wanted by police in Brighton over an assault on a woman known to him, was arrested and charged. He pleaded guilty to assault by beating and was sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment.
A Hailsham man was given a 10-year prison sentence for a sexual offence which occurred more than 40 years ago. Eric Jones, 85, retired of Ashley Gardens, Hailsham was jailed after being found guilty by a jury in December.
