Appeal for witnesses after man dies on M23 near Gatwick

Surrey Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died following a collision with a lorry on the M23 earlier this afternoon (Sunday July 14).

It is believed the man fell from a bridge over the motorway and collided with the lorry which was travelling northbound about a mile from the Gatwick exit.

Police were called to the incident around 1.15pm and attended along with ambulance and fire crews.

The man was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The northbound carriageway of the motorway is closed while emergency services deal with the incident and there is heavy congestion in the area.

It was hoped that two lanes of the motorway will be reopened soon but motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being.
