County Record Office will close for fortnight

The County Record Office in Chichester will be closed to visitors for two weeks from Monday, November 28.

The closure, which happens every year, will help staff undertake major cleaning and sorting jobs as well as catching up on some of the backlog of cataloguing.

Deputy Leader Lionel Barnard, who oversees the Record Office, said the plan would help staff tackle the time-consuming jobs that cannot be completed when the office is busy with members of the public.

He added: “This will enable the Record Office to provide an even better service for the public when it re-opens.”

The closure will have no effect on the registration and coroner’s service – both of which also occupy the building. These will remain open as usual. The record office will re-open on December 12.
