Council will pay for street party road closures

FORGET the doom-and-gloom national predictions that the Queen s Golden Jubilee will be a flop.

Rother District Council is coming to the rescue.

Chief executive Derek Stevens said: "Road closure orders can cost 100 to 150 a time.

"Rother cabinet has agreed at my suggestion that we should make a single application from here - provided people tell us in time that they want a street party.

"We will roll all the applications into one road closure order and we will not charge.

"That way we will we can actually support street parties."

Rother will also issue applicants with a handy leaflet giving a things-to-do check-list - topped by the need to obtain insurance cover.
