Council tax freeze for Arun moves step closer

Cabinet members of Arun District Council agreed on Monday to recommend its share of residents’ council tax bill should stay unchanged. The decision is due to be ratified at next week’s meeting of the full council.

Cllr Gillian Brown, the council’s leader, told the cabinet: “This will be the fourth year there has been no increase in our share of council tax.

“Despite all the financial pressures we have had on the council, including the reduction in our grant from central government, we are in the position to freeze our council tax for another year.”

Any decision made at next week’s meeting will take effect from April for the next year.

If a freeze is agreed, it will keep Arun’s share of the council tax at £161.37 for a band D household

Council financial services manager Peter Vickers said the budget would still leave Arun with balances of nearly £12m after putting 
aside £2.2m for capital projects.

“This includes new leisure centres, a new cafe in Hotham Park and significant improvements to the Arun Civic Centre and Bognor Regis Town Hall,” he said.
