Conversion complaints

Letters complaining about the growing number of house conversions in Bognor Regis have been sent by town councillors.

They have told Arun District Council they are concerned about the number of flats being created and the rising population they cause.

Ken Scutt said a recent period had seen planning applications for conversions of 40 houses being considered by the town council.

But, unlike new homes, the developers did not have to pay any cash towards the services needed to cope with the increased number of residents.

Simon McDougall backed Cllr Scutt's comments. He said he was also concerned the stock of family houses was dwindling because so many of them were becoming flats.

Jim Brooks, who is also a member of Arun District Council's development control committee, explained its members were bound by government rules about which proposals to accept.
