Children enjoy a week of fun under the canvas of the Big Top in Yapton

Big Top fun returned to Yapton with 130 children enjoying a week of activities under the giant canvas.

The packed programme included clowning around, story-telling, tug of war and five-a-side football competitions.

Organised by Yapton Free Church and St Mary's Church in the village, the children from the surrounding villages of Barnham, Climping, Eastergate, Middleton, Slindon and Walberton all had a great time.

Some, like Slindon resident Becky Sercombe, who took her young child each day, could remember the impact these annual holiday clubs had on her as a child after they began in 1993.

The holiday club marked the start of her Christian beliefs, she told the Yapton Free Church congregation during the final service in the tent.

The final two nights also witnessed healing outpouring services in the tent, which brought more than 200 people from across the south to worship and pray for healing.

Hugo Van Driel, the evangelist at the heart of Yapton Free Church, said: "The holiday club has always made quite an impact on people's lives.

"But we couldn't hold it each year without the support of more than 30 helpers and parents who devote a week's holiday time to assisting to make it such a success."
