Chichester Cathedral reveal restored Lambert Barnard paintings

RARE paintings and the hard work of restoring them will be the topic of discussion at a lecture taking place on Tuesday (October 23) at Chichester Cathedral.

Following the national appeal in 2010 which raised £250,000 to restore the Chichester Lambert Barnard paintings, Rupert Featherstone, assistant director of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, will be speaking about the history of the paintings and their conservation.

The Prince of Wales was patron of the appeal and after a number of donations, work began on the cathedral’s Tudor paintings last year.

Mr Featherstone was one of the specialists conservators from the Hamilton Kerr Institute of the University of Cambridge who worked on the paintings.

He will explain the newly-discovered features and reveal the hidden history of the works of art.

The lecture starts at 6.30pm in the nave of Chichester Cathedral, and entry is free.
